DP83848CVVX/NOPB

The DP83848CVVX/NOPB is a highly reliable 10/100 Mbps Ethernet physical layer transceiver from Texas Instruments’ PHYTER family. Designed for embedded Ethernet applications, it supports MII, RMII, and SNI MAC interfaces with Auto-MDIX capability. Built on 0.18-um CMOS technology, it consumes less than 270 mW typically and provides robust ESD protection exceeding 4 kV. The device meets IEEE 802.3 standards and includes energy detection mode for reduced power consumption during idle periods.

The DP83848C implements the physical layer of the Ethernet protocol stack. On the transmit path, it takes parallel data from the MAC via MII/RMII, encodes it using 4B/5B (100BASE-TX) or Manchester (10BASE-T) encoding, and drives the analog signal onto the twisted-pair cable through an integrated PMD. On the receive path, it performs adaptive equalization, clock recovery, decoding, and presents parallel data to the MAC. Auto-MDIX automatically detects and corrects for crossover cables, eliminating wiring configuration concerns.
