The BC856B215 from Nexperia is a PNP general-purpose bipolar junction transistor in a SOT-23-3 surface mount package. The device is the PNP complement to the BC846B NPN transistor, enabling push-pull and bridge circuit configurations. The B group specifies hFE of 200 to 450 at IC=-2mA for tight gain distribution. The -65V VCEO and -100mA IC ratings cover a broad range of low-power switching and amplification. The 215 suffix indicates tape and reel packaging with 3000 units per 7-inch reel, suitable for automated SMT assembly. The BC856 series is one of the most widely used PNP small-signal transistor families.

The BC856B215 is a planar epitaxial PNP bipolar junction transistor. In the PNP structure, holes are the majority carriers in the P-type emitter, injected through the thin N-type base to the P-type collector. When the base-emitter junction is forward-biased (VBE negative relative to emitter for PNP), base current flows and the collector current is amplified by the hFE gain (200-450 for B group). The -120 mV VCE(sat) at -10mA is slightly higher than the NPN complement due to the lower hole mobility in the PNP structure. The 100 MHz transition frequency is set by the base transit time. The SOT-23 package provides the same thermal characteristics as the NPN BC846B.
