The HEF4047BT from Nexperia is a retriggerable monostable/astable multivibrator in a SOIC-14 package, belonging to the HEF4000B CMOS logic family. The device can be configured as either a positive-edge or negative-edge triggered monostable multivibrator, or as a free-running astable multivibrator. The output pulse width is programmed by selection of external resistor (Rt) and capacitor (Ct). The device features true and complemented buffered outputs, a dedicated oscillator output, and a master reset (MR) input. In monostable mode, the output pulse width is independent of trigger pulse duration. The retriggerable option allows pulse-width expansion by applying a common pulse to the RETRIGGER and +TRIGGER inputs. In astable mode, the device operates as a free-running or gateable oscillator with 50% duty cycle at the true/complement outputs. The external counter option enables very long pulse widths using small RC components.

The HEF4047BT uses CMOS logic to implement monostable and astable timing functions. (1) Monostable Mode: An external capacitor (Ct) is connected between CTC and RCTC pins, and an external resistor (Rt) between RTC and RCTC. When triggered by a positive edge on +TRIGGER (with -TRIGGER low) or a negative edge on -TRIGGER (with +TRIGGER high), the output pulse begins. The pulse width is determined by the RC time constant: tw = 2.48 x Rt x Ct. (2) Astable Mode: A high level on the ASTABLE input enables free-running oscillation. The oscillation period is: T = 4.4 x Rt x Ct. The oscillator output (pin 13) provides a signal at twice the frequency of the main output. (3) Retriggerable: Applying a common pulse to both RETRIGGER and +TRIGGER extends the output pulse. The output remains high as long as retrigger pulses arrive before the current pulse times out. (4) Master Reset: A high level on MR terminates the output pulse immediately and prevents output during power-on conditions.
