The ADG706BRUZ from Analog Devices is a low-voltage CMOS analog multiplexer comprising 16 single channels in a 28-lead TSSOP package. The device switches one of 16 inputs (S1-S16) to a common output (D) as determined by the 4-bit binary address lines A0, A1, A2, and A3. An EN input enables or disables the device; when disabled, all channels are switched off. The 2.5 Ohm typical on resistance with 0.5 Ohm flatness ensures excellent signal integrity across the full input range. The device operates from 1.8V to 5.5V single supply or +/-2.5V dual supply, making it suitable for a wide range of low-voltage systems. The 100pA typical leakage current preserves signal accuracy in high-impedance measurement circuits. The 40ns typical switching time supports high-speed channel selection in data acquisition applications. CMOS construction provides ultralow power consumption of less than 0.01uW, ideal for battery-powered portable instruments. All channels exhibit break-before-make switching action, preventing momentary short circuits when switching between channels.

The ADG706BRUZ uses a CMOS transmission gate architecture with 4-to-16 address decoding. (1) Transmission Gate: Each of the 16 channels consists of parallel N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs forming a bidirectional switch. The complementary structure provides low and flat on resistance across the full signal range from 0V to VDD. (2) 4-to-16 Decoder: The 4-bit address (A0-A3) is decoded by an internal 4-to-16 line decoder that generates the individual channel enable signals. Only the addressed channel is turned on; all others remain off. (3) Enable Function: The EN input gates the decoder output. When EN is low, all decoder outputs are forced off regardless of the address, disabling all switches. (4) Break-Before-Make: When the address changes, the decoder ensures the currently on channel turns off before the new channel turns on, with a minimum 1ns break-before-make delay. (5) Low Leakage: The submicron CMOS process and careful layout minimize junction leakage to 100pA typical, critical for precision measurement applications where leakage currents can cause measurement errors.
