The ADAU1452WBCPZ from Analog Devices is a high-performance SigmaDSP audio processor designed for professional and automotive audio applications. The 72 MHz core executes up to 8192 instructions per sample period, enabling complex multi-channel signal processing including crossover filters, parametric EQ, dynamic range compression, and delay alignment. The 6 serial input ports and 8 serial output ports support TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) with up to 8 channels each, providing up to 48 input and 64 output audio channels. Hardware sample rate converters on each serial input allow seamless interfacing between audio devices running at different sample rates. The integrated PLL generates all required internal clocks from a single master clock input. The SigmaStudio graphical IDE enables drag-and-drop signal flow design without writing code, dramatically reducing development time. The BGA-72 package provides the pin density needed for the extensive audio I/O.

The ADAU1452WBCPZ uses a Harvard-architecture DSP core optimized for audio signal processing. Each instruction cycle, the core fetches an instruction from program RAM, reads up to two operands from data/parameter RAM, executes the operation (multiply-accumulate, add/subtract, logic, or branch), and writes the result back. The 72 MHz clock provides approximately 1500 instruction cycles per sample period at 48 kHz (72M/48k = 1500), but the actual instruction throughput is 8192 instructions per sample because the processor can execute multiple operations per instruction using VLIW-like packing. The serial ports interface with ADCs, DACs, and other audio ICs using I2S, LJ, RJ, or TDM formats. The hardware ASRCs (Asynchronous Sample Rate Converters) use polyphase FIR filters to convert between sample rates with >130 dB dynamic range. The PLL multiplies the input clock to generate the 72 MHz core clock and all serial port bit clocks. The parameter RAM stores filter coefficients that can be updated in real-time via SPI/I2C without interrupting audio processing.
