The ADS1119IPWR is a Texas Instruments 16-bit 4-channel delta-sigma ADC with programmable gain amplifier (PGA) in a 14-lead TSSOP package. The PGA provides gain settings of 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, and 16x, enabling direct measurement of small signals such as bridge sensors and RTDs without external amplification. The 4.096V internal reference eliminates the need for an external reference in most applications, while an external reference input is available for higher accuracy requirements. The multiplexer supports four single-ended or two differential input configurations. The I2C interface supports standard (100kHz), fast (400kHz), and high-speed (3.4MHz) modes. Data rates from 14SPS to 860SPS are programmable, with higher data rates providing faster conversion but lower effective resolution due to increased noise. The device supports both continuous conversion and single-shot modes, with single-shot mode automatically powering down between conversions to save power. An integrated oscillator eliminates external clock requirements. Packaged in 14-lead TSSOP rated for -40C to +125C.

The ADS1119 uses a second-order delta-sigma modulator followed by a programmable digital decimation filter. The modulator samples the input at a high oversampling ratio (OSR), producing a 1-bit data stream. The decimation filter processes this stream to produce a 16-bit output word at the selected data rate. Higher OSR (lower data rate) provides better noise performance and more effective number of bits (ENOB). The PGA sits before the modulator, amplifying small input signals to utilize more of the modulators dynamic range. At PGA=16x, the full-scale input range is +/-256mV, suitable for bridge and RTD measurements. The multiplexer selects the input channel pair for differential or single-ended measurement. The I2C interface writes configuration to the Config register and reads conversion results from the Data register. A DATA_RDY pin can alert the host when a new conversion is available, reducing I2C polling overhead.
