The ADS1100A0IDBVR is a precision 16-bit delta-sigma ADC from Texas Instruments, integrating a programmable gain amplifier and I2C interface in an ultra-compact SOT-23-6 package. It performs ratiometric conversions using the power supply as reference voltage, eliminating the need for an external reference. The device features continuous self-calibration, ensuring drift-free performance over time and temperature. With PGA gains of 1, 2, 4, or 8, the ADS1100 can measure small differential signals with high resolution. Data rates are programmable from 8 SPS to 128 SPS. In single-conversion mode, the ADC automatically powers down after each conversion, reducing idle current to mere microamps. The I2C interface supports standard (100kHz), fast (400kHz), and high-speed (3.4MHz) modes. Eight pin-selectable I2C addresses allow multiple ADS1100 devices on the same bus.

The ADS1100 employs a second-order delta-sigma modulator followed by a digital decimation filter. The modulator oversamples the input at a frequency much higher than the output data rate, converting the analog input into a high-speed bit stream. The digital filter then decimates this bit stream to produce 16-bit output data. The on-chip PGA amplifies small differential signals before the modulator, enabling measurement of millivolt-level inputs. Self-calibration runs continuously in the background, compensating for offset and gain drift. The configuration register controls data rate, PGA gain, and conversion mode (single or continuous). In single-conversion mode, the ST/BSY bit initiates a conversion and indicates when results are ready.
