The XL4015E1 from XLSEMI is a 5A 180kHz buck DC-DC converter with 8-36V input, 1.25-32V adjustable output, up to 96% efficiency, and integrated thermal/current/short protection in a TO263-5L package.

The XL4015 uses fixed-frequency PWM control to regulate the output voltage. An internal power PMOS switch connects the input to the SW pin, energizing the external inductor. When the switch opens, current flows through the external Schottky diode. The FB pin senses the output voltage through a resistor divider and compares it to the 1.25V reference. The error amplifier adjusts the PWM duty cycle to maintain regulation. During output short circuit, the switching frequency folds back from 180kHz to 48kHz to reduce power dissipation.
