The TXS0102DCTT from Texas Instruments is a 2-bit bidirectional voltage-level translator designed for open-drain and push-pull applications. The A port supports 1.65V to 3.6V operation tracking VCCA, while the B port supports 2.3V to 5.5V tracking VCCB. The auto-direction sensing eliminates the need for a direction-control signal, making it ideal for I2C, SMBus, and other bidirectional interfaces. The device supports 24Mbps in push-pull mode and 2Mbps in open-drain mode. VCC isolation places both ports in Hi-Z when either supply is at GND, and no power-supply sequencing is required. The DCTT suffix denotes SSOP-8 package with tape and reel packaging.

The TXS0102DCTT operates as an auto-direction bidirectional level translator. (1) Each of the two channels consists of a pass transistor structure that can conduct in either direction. The A-side is designed for the lower voltage domain (1.65-3.6V) and the B-side for the higher voltage domain (2.3-5.5V). When one side drives low, the pass transistor conducts and pulls the other side low. (2) For open-drain applications (such as I2C), the edge-rate accelerator circuit detects a low-to-high transition on either side and briefly drives the line high to speed up the RC charge time. This one-shot accelerator reduces the open-drain rise time from hundreds of nanoseconds to tens of nanoseconds. The 2Mbps open-drain data rate supports standard I2C fast-mode (400kHz). (3) The auto-direction feature eliminates the need for a DIR control pin. The device senses the direction of data flow automatically based on which side is driving. When OE is low, all I/Os enter high-impedance state, enabling bus isolation. The VCC isolation feature ensures both ports are Hi-Z if either supply rail is at ground.
