The TPS92830QPWRQ1 is a Texas Instruments AEC-Q100 qualified three-channel linear LED driver in a 20-pin TSSOP package. Each channel provides up to 100mA constant current for driving LED strings, with the current independently set by an external resistor on each channel. The device operates from a 4.5V to 40V supply, supporting 12V and 24V automotive battery systems. The linear regulation architecture provides flicker-free LED operation without electromagnetic interference (EMI) associated with switching regulators. The PWM dimming input on each channel enables independent brightness control with dimming ratios exceeding 1000:1. The device integrates comprehensive diagnostic features including LED open-circuit detection, LED short-circuit detection, and single-LED short-circuit detection for each channel. The adjustable output current derating function reduces LED current at high temperatures to prevent thermal overstress. The one-fails-all-fault output can be configured to turn off all channels when a fault is detected on any single channel, ensuring uniform illumination behavior during fault conditions.

The TPS92830QPWRQ1 regulates LED current through each channel using an internal NPN pass transistor in series with the LED string. The current is set by an external resistor (RISET) connected to the ISET pin, where the output current equals 10 times the current through RISET. The error amplifier compares the sense voltage with the internal reference and adjusts the pass transistor gate drive to maintain constant current. PWM dimming is achieved by toggling the PWM input pin, which enables and disables the corresponding channel output with fast turn-on/off response for high-resolution dimming. The diagnostic comparators continuously monitor each channel output voltage: a voltage above the open-circuit threshold indicates an open LED, while a voltage below the short-circuit threshold indicates a shorted LED. The thermal derating function progressively reduces the reference current as junction temperature increases above the programmed threshold.
