The TPS61093DSKR from Texas Instruments is a 1.2MHz fixed-frequency boost converter designed for high integration and reliability. The device integrates a 20V power switch FET, input/output isolation switch, and power diode in a single 2.5×2.5mm WSON package. The 1.6V minimum input voltage enables operation from two alkaline batteries, a single Li-ion cell, or regulated 3.3V/5V supplies. The output can be boosted up to 17V. A key feature is the integrated isolation FET that disconnects the output from the input during shutdown, minimizing leakage current, and opens during overload conditions to protect both the IC and the input supply. The built-in power diode eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode. Protection features include cycle-by-cycle 1.1A overcurrent protection, output overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockout.

The TPS61093DSKR uses a current-mode PWM boost converter architecture. When the internal NMOS switch turns on, current flows from the input through the inductor to ground, storing energy in the inductor’s magnetic field. When the switch turns off, the inductor voltage adds to the input voltage, and current flows through the integrated power diode to the output capacitor and load. The feedback pin (FB) senses the output voltage via a resistor divider and compares it to the internal reference. The error amplifier adjusts the switch duty cycle to maintain regulation. The isolation FET sits between the input and output paths, opening during shutdown or overload to prevent reverse current flow. The programmable soft start limits inrush current during startup.
