The TPS54623RHLR from Texas Instruments is a 6A synchronous step-down converter with integrated 16mOhm high-side and 10mOhm low-side MOSFETs in a compact 16-pin 3.5×3.5mm VQFN package. Operating from 4.5V to 17V input, it delivers adjustable output voltages down to 0.6V with +/-1% reference accuracy. The 500kHz fixed switching frequency balances efficiency and inductor size. Power Save mode maintains high efficiency at light loads. The device features adjustable slow-start, power good output, and comprehensive protection including overcurrent and thermal shutdown.

The TPS54623 uses a voltage-mode control architecture with fixed 500kHz switching frequency. An error amplifier compares a divided-down output voltage with the 0.6V internal reference, and the resulting error signal is compared with an internal ramp to generate the PWM duty cycle. The integrated MOSFETs switch alternately to convert input to regulated output. In Power Save mode, the device skips pulses at light loads to reduce switching losses. Current limit uses valley current sensing through the low-side MOSFET RDS(on), providing cycle-by-cycle protection.
