The TPS543820RPYR from Texas Instruments is an 8A synchronous SWIFT step-down converter with internally compensated Advanced Current Mode (ACM) control in a compact 14-pin 2.5x3mm VQFN-HR HotRod package. Operating from 4V to 18V input, it delivers adjustable output from 0.5V to 7V with +/-0.5% reference accuracy. The integrated 25mOhm high-side and 6.5mOhm low-side MOSFETs minimize conduction losses. Five selectable switching frequencies (500kHz to 2.2MHz) allow optimization for efficiency or solution size. Pin-compatible with TPS543620 and TPS543320 for easy scalability.

The TPS543820 uses internally compensated Advanced Current Mode (ACM) control, which emulates peak current mode without requiring external compensation. An error amplifier compares the divided output voltage with the 0.5V reference. The ACM block generates a ramp signal that adds to the inductor current emulated signal. The resulting PWM duty cycle drives the integrated MOSFETs. Three selectable ramp options optimize the control loop for different L-C output filter combinations. In light-load conditions, the device enters pulse-skipping mode for improved efficiency. Selectable current limit supports both 8A and 6A operation.
