The TPS54320RHLR from Texas Instruments is a 3A synchronous step-down converter in the SWIFT family with integrated power MOSFETs (57mOhm/50mOhm). It accepts input voltages from 4.5V to 17V and provides an adjustable output from 0.8V to 15V. The switching frequency is adjustable from 200kHz to 1.2MHz via an external resistor, allowing optimization of efficiency and solution size. Power Good output and adjustable soft-start with tracking support power sequencing in multi-rail systems. The split VIN/PVIN feature enables independent bias supply for improved efficiency at low output voltages.

The TPS54320RHLR uses a current-mode control architecture with an internal oscillator set by an external resistor. The high-side MOSFET connects the input to the inductor during the on-time, charging the output capacitor and supplying the load. During the off-time, the low-side MOSFET provides a path for inductor current freewheeling. The feedback loop regulates the output voltage by adjusting the duty cycle. Current-mode control provides cycle-by-cycle current limiting. In hiccup mode overcurrent protection, the device cycles through periods of switching and rest to limit average fault current. The Power Good comparator monitors the output voltage and asserts when within regulation. The soft-start circuit controls output voltage ramp-up to limit inrush current.
