The TPS54060ADGQ from Texas Instruments is a 60V, 0.5A step-down DC-DC converter with an integrated 200mOhm high-side N-channel MOSFET in an MSOP-10 PowerPAD package. The device operates from 3.5V to 60V input and provides an adjustable output down to 0.8V at up to 0.5A. Current-mode control simplifies external compensation and provides flexible component selection. Eco-Mode pulse skipping reduces no-load regulated output supply current to 116uA for energy-efficient light-load operation. The switching frequency is adjustable from 100kHz to 2.5MHz via a resistor on the RT/CLK pin, and the device can be synchronized to an external clock via the internal PLL. A Power Good open-drain output indicates when the output is within 93% to 107% of nominal voltage. Internal slow-start minimizes inrush current and can be configured for power-supply sequencing or tracking.

The TPS54060ADGQ uses a current-mode control architecture for stable regulation. (1) Power Stage: The integrated 200mOhm high-side N-channel MOSFET switches the input voltage to the output inductor. An external boot capacitor between BOOT and PH provides gate drive voltage above VIN. (2) Current-Mode Control: An inner current loop senses the MOSFET current and compares it to the voltage error amplifier output. This provides cycle-by-cycle current limiting and simplifies frequency compensation. (3) Eco-Mode: At light loads, the device enters pulse-skipping mode where the controller delivers a single on-pulse and then enters a low-power state until the output falls below the threshold. This reduces the effective switching frequency and quiescent current to 116uA. (4) Synchronization: The RT/CLK pin accepts an external clock for frequency synchronization. An internal PLL locks the switching frequency to the external clock falling edge. (5) Slow-Start: An external capacitor on the SS/TR pin programs the startup ramp time. The pin can also be used for output voltage tracking during sequencing.
