The TPS2115APWR is a Texas Instruments automatic power multiplexer (power mux) in a 20-pin TSSOP package that seamlessly switches between two power sources (IN1 and IN2) to a single output (OUT). The device can handle up to 2A continuous current with input voltages from 2.8V to 5.5V. The automatic switchover occurs when the selected input voltage falls below an adjustable threshold, with the backup source taking over without interrupting the output. The priority input is selectable via the STATUS pin, and the switchover comparator threshold is adjustable with external resistors. The controlled slew rate limits inrush current during switchover, preventing voltage droops on the backup supply. The reverse current blocking prevents current flow from the output back into the deselected input. The device supports manual switchover via the /EN pin and provides a STATUS output indicating which input is currently selected.

The TPS2115APWR uses two back-to-back P-channel MOSFET switches (one per input) with a control circuit that ensures only one switch is on at a time. The priority input (IN1 by default) is connected to the output through the primary MOSFET. The voltage monitor continuously compares IN1 against the adjustable threshold. When IN1 drops below the threshold, the control circuit begins the switchover sequence: the primary MOSFET is turned off and the secondary MOSFET is turned on with controlled slew rate to limit inrush current. The break-before-make timing (typically 10-30 us) prevents cross-conduction between the two inputs. Reverse current blocking uses a comparator to detect current flowing from OUT back to the deselected input, immediately turning off that MOSFET. The STATUS output is driven low when IN2 is selected and high for IN1.
