The TPS2051BDGNR from Texas Instruments is a single-channel current-limited power-distribution switch in an MSOP-8 (DGN) package. The N-channel MOSFET switch has 135mOhm maximum on-resistance at 5V input and supports 0.5A continuous current with 0.9A typical current limit. The active-high enable allows direct MCU control. Protection features include short-circuit current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and undervoltage lockout. An open-drain fault output (OC) reports overcurrent and thermal faults. The device operates from 2.7V to 5.5V, making it suitable for USB port power switching and general-purpose load management.

The TPS2051BDGNR uses an N-channel MOSFET power switch with integrated protection. (1) Power Switch: An N-channel MOSFET with 135mOhm RDS(on) connects the input (IN) to the output (OUT) when enabled. A charge pump generates the gate drive voltage above VIN for low RDS(on). (2) Current Limiting: When output current exceeds 0.9A typical, the current limit circuit reduces the gate drive to maintain constant current. (3) Thermal Shutdown: At approximately 140C junction temperature, the switch turns off. Auto-recovery occurs when temperature drops below threshold. (4) UVLO: The switch is off when VIN is below 2.0V. (5) Fault Output: Open-drain OC pulls low on overcurrent or thermal fault.
