The TPS2034DR is a Texas Instruments 2A power distribution switch with a 33mohm N-channel MOSFET high-side switch designed for USB and general-purpose power routing applications. The 2.7V to 5.5V input range supports both 3.3V and 5V bus voltages. An internal charge pump generates the gate drive for the N-channel MOSFET, achieving the low 33mohm on-resistance at 5V input without external components. The controlled 6.1ms rise time limits inrush current into heavy capacitive loads, making it ideal for hot-plug USB applications. When the output current exceeds the 3A short-circuit threshold, the device switches to constant-current mode and asserts the open-drain OC (overcurrent) output low. Thermal protection shuts down the switch if junction temperature exceeds the safe limit. UVLO ensures the switch remains off until input voltage is valid. Packaged in SOIC-8 rated for -40C to +125C.

The TPS2034 uses an N-channel MOSFET as the high-side switch element. Since the gate voltage must exceed the source (output) voltage to fully enhance an N-channel MOSFET, an internal charge pump generates a gate voltage above the input supply. The charge pump also controls the rise and fall times of the output voltage to limit inrush current. A sense FET monitors the load current without adding series resistance to the current path. When the current exceeds the 3A threshold, the sense FET triggers constant-current mode, where the MOSFET operates in its linear region to limit current to a safe level. The OC output is asserted low to report the fault. If the resulting power dissipation raises the junction temperature above the thermal shutdown threshold, the switch is turned off entirely. Recovery from thermal shutdown is automatic once the device cools.
