The TMP116AIDRVR is a high-precision digital temperature sensor from Texas Instruments that achieves ±0.2°C maximum accuracy from -10°C to +85°C without any calibration, exceeding the performance of Class A RTDs while consuming less than one-fifth of a PT100 RTD’s excitation current. The device provides 16-bit temperature results with 0.0078°C resolution, programmable alert functionality, and 64 bits of general-purpose EEPROM for storing calibration coefficients or system identification. The TMP116AIDRVR uses an internal bandgap-referenced temperature-sensing element followed by a 16-bit ADC to digitize the temperature reading. The device communicates via I2C/SMBus interface, supporting up to four devices on a single bus through the ADD0 address select pin. Temperature conversion is performed at a user-configurable rate, with selectable averaging of 1, 8, 32, or 64 samples to trade off noise versus power consumption. The programmable alert comparator monitors temperature against high and low limits stored in configuration registers, asserting the open-drain ALERT pin when thresholds are crossed. The 64-bit EEPROM stores user data across power cycles, useful for serialization or calibration metadata. In shutdown mode, the ADC and sensor are powered down while I2C communication remains active, reducing current to 250nA.
