The TLP293-4(GB-TP,E(T from Toshiba is a 4-channel photocoupler containing four independent LED-phototransistor pairs in a single SO-16 surface mount package. The device provides 3750Vrms isolation between input and output, with 5mm minimum creepage and clearance distances for reinforced isolation in industrial applications. The GB rank CTR specification of 100-600% at IF=5mA provides a tighter lower bound than the blank rank (50-600%), making it suitable for applications requiring guaranteed current transfer at low LED drive currents. The 80V VCEO and 50mA collector current per channel support direct interface with 24V industrial logic. The (GB-TP,E(T suffix encodes Toshiba’s ordering code: GB=CTR rank, TP=tape and reel packaging, E=environmental compliance. This is a different ordering code variant of the same TLP293-4 device as the TLP293-4(4LGBTPE.

Each channel of the TLP293-4 consists of a GaAlAs LED optically coupled to a silicon phototransistor through a transparent isolation layer. When current flows through the LED (IF), infrared photons are emitted and travel across the isolation gap to illuminate the phototransistor base region. The absorbed photons generate base current in the phototransistor, which is amplified by the transistor’s hFE to produce the collector current (IC). The current transfer ratio (CTR = IC/IF) depends on LED efficiency, optical coupling, and phototransistor gain. The GB rank guarantees CTR of 100-600% at IF=5mA. The 3750Vrms isolation is achieved by maintaining a minimum 0.4mm internal isolation thickness between the LED and phototransistor dice, with the transparent coupling compound providing both optical coupling and electrical isolation. The propagation delay of up to 1.0us is limited by the phototransistor’s switching speed.
