The TLE8104E from Infineon Technologies is a quad low-side switch in Smart Power Technology (SPT) designed for automotive powertrain applications. The device features four open-drain DMOS output stages with 320mOhm typical RDS(ON) at 25C, each rated for 1A nominal load current with 3A minimum current limitation. The output stages can be controlled directly by parallel inputs for PWM applications such as gasoline port injection, or by 8-bit SPI for diagnosis and control. The parallel inputs are programmable as active-high or active-low. Comprehensive protection includes overload, overtemperature, and overvoltage shutdown. Diagnosis is available via SPI status registers or the external FAULT pin. The device is AEC qualified for automotive use.

Working Principle:TLE8104E Working Principle

The TLE8104E operates as a quad low-side DMOS switch array. (1) Each of the four output channels consists of an N-channel DMOS transistor connected between the load (drain) and ground (source). When the channel is turned on, current flows from the battery through the load and through the DMOS transistor to ground. The 320mOhm RDS(ON) minimizes power dissipation at the nominal 1A load current. (2) The device can be controlled via two methods: parallel inputs (IN1-IN4) for direct PWM control, or 8-bit SPI interface for serial control and diagnosis. The PRG pin configures parallel inputs as active-high or active-low. The SPI provides readback of diagnostic information including overload flags, open-load detection, and overtemperature warning for each channel. (3) Protection circuits monitor each channel independently. Overload protection limits the current to 3-6A when a short circuit occurs. Overtemperature protection shuts down the affected channel when junction temperature exceeds 170-200C with 10K hysteresis. The overvoltage clamp protects the DMOS transistors from inductive kickback when switching off inductive loads.
