The TLC5926IDBQR is a Texas Instruments 16-channel constant-current sink LED driver in a 28-pin SSOP (DBQ) package. Each of the 16 outputs can sink 3mA to 50mA with ±1% channel-to-channel current matching, eliminating the need for external current-setting resistors. The output current is set by a single external resistor on the REXT pin, and all channels share the same current level. The 30MHz serial shift register interface allows daisy-chaining multiple devices for large LED arrays with minimal MCU pin usage. Each output can be individually enabled or disabled via the 16-bit shift register. The device includes open-circuit and short-circuit LED detection with an error flag output that reports which channel has a fault, enabling diagnostic monitoring in signage and display applications. The output voltage compliance extends to 17V, supporting various LED string voltages. Thermal shutdown protects the device when junction temperature exceeds approximately 160°C. The TLC5926 is ideal for applications requiring uniform LED brightness across many channels.

The TLC5926 uses a current-mirror architecture where a single external resistor on the REXT pin sets a reference current. This reference current is mirrored to all 16 output channels with ±1% matching accuracy. Each output is a constant-current sink that regulates the LED current regardless of the LED forward voltage variation. The 16-bit shift register controls the on/off state of each channel, clocked in via the SDI and SCLK pins. The LAT (latch) pin transfers the shift register data to the output drivers. The LED open/short detection works by comparing the output voltage against internal thresholds during the on-state: if the output voltage is too high (open LED) or too low (shorted LED), the corresponding bit in the error register is set, and the ERR flag is asserted. The 30MHz clock rate enables high refresh rates for multiplexed displays.
