The 1.65V to 3.6V supply range supports 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V logic systems. The 5.5V input tolerance allows direct interfacing with 5V logic devices without level-shifting, making the SN74LVC244A an excellent 5V-to-3.3V level translator. The 4.5ns maximum propagation delay at 3.3V provides high-speed address and data bus driving. The SN74LVC244A contains eight non-inverting buffers with 3-state output capability. Each 4-bit group (1Y1-1Y4 and 2Y1-2Y4) shares an active-low output enable (1OE and 2OE). When OE is low, the outputs follow the inputs (Y = A). When OE is high, the outputs are in the high-impedance (Hi-Z) state, effectively disconnecting the buffer from the bus. The 5.5V input tolerance is achieved by using input clamp diodes and high-voltage input transistors that can withstand voltages above VCC. The input stage uses a CMOS inverter with a trip point at approximately VCC/2 for LVC-level switching. The output stage uses a push-pull CMOS driver sized for 24mA drive capability at 3.3V. The bus-hold circuit consists of a weak PMOS pull-up and NMOS pull-down feedback network that holds the input at the last valid logic level when the driving source is disconnected. The Ioff circuit isolates the output transistors when VCC is 0V, preventing parasitic conduction paths.
