The SMAJ30CA-E3/61 from Vishay is a 400W bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode in an SMA (DO-214AC) package. With 30V working voltage and 48.4V maximum clamping voltage at 8.3A peak pulse current, it provides cost-effective transient protection for industrial and consumer electronics. The bidirectional configuration clamps both positive and negative transients, making it suitable for AC signal lines and bidirectional bus protection. The device operates from -55C to +175C junction temperature.

The SMAJ30CA-E3/61 uses avalanche breakdown TVS technology with bidirectional clamping. (1) Normal Operation: Below +/-30V, the device presents high impedance with minimal leakage. (2) Transient Clamping: When a transient exceeds the breakdown voltage (33.3V min), avalanche breakdown diverts current and clamps the voltage to 48.4V max. (3) Bidirectional: Two back-to-back Zener diodes provide symmetric positive and negative clamping. (4) Energy Absorption: The device absorbs up to 400W peak pulse power during standard 10/1000us transients.
