The RCLAMP3304N.TCT from Semtech is a RailClamp low-capacitance TVS array designed to protect high-speed data interfaces from ESD, cable discharge events (CDE), and lightning surges. In a compact 10-pin SLP2626P10 (2.6×2.6mm) package, it protects up to 4 I/O lines plus the power line with a 3.3V operating voltage. The internal steering diodes direct transient currents to ground while the TVS diode clamps the voltage to 18V maximum. With only 3.8pF line capacitance, it does not degrade signal integrity on Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and other high-speed interfaces. IEC 61000-4-2 (8kV contact), IEC 61000-4-4 (40A EFT), and IEC 61000-4-5 (25A lightning) compliance ensures robust transient protection.

The RCLAMP3304N.TCT uses a rail-clamp architecture with steering diodes and an internal TVS diode. During normal operation, the steering diodes are reverse-biased and present only 3.8pF capacitance to the signal lines. When a positive transient exceeds VCC + one diode drop, the upper steering diode conducts, routing current to the internal TVS diode, which clamps the voltage. For negative transients, the lower steering diode conducts to ground. The TVS diode provides the actual voltage clamping, limiting the voltage seen by the protected IC to 18V maximum. The rail-clamp topology provides lower clamping voltage than simple TVS diodes because the steering diodes add only one diode drop to the TVS clamp voltage.
