As an external-drive piezo transducer, it requires an AC drive signal at or near its 3.6kHz resonant frequency for maximum sound pressure output. The 27mm disc provides a large radiating area that enables high SPL output suitable for alarm and warning applications in industrial, security, and medical environments. The external drive approach gives the system designer full control over the drive frequency and modulation pattern, enabling multi-tone alerts and variable-volume operation. Common drive circuits include 555 timer oscillators, MCU PWM outputs, or dedicated buzzer driver ICs.

The PK-27N36PSQ consists of a piezoelectric ceramic disc bonded to a metal diaphragm. When an AC voltage at the resonant frequency (3.6kHz) is applied across the ceramic element, the inverse piezoelectric effect causes the disc to flex, generating sound waves. Maximum SPL output is achieved at the mechanical resonance of the disc assembly where the vibration amplitude is largest. The external drive circuit must generate the AC excitation signal, typically using a 555 timer, MCU PWM output, or dedicated buzzer driver IC.
