The onsemi NC7SB3257P6X is a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) bus switch designed for signal routing and multiplexing in high-speed, space-constrained applications. The device functions as a 2:1 multiplexer or 1:2 demultiplexer, routing one of two input signals to a common output based on the select (S) pin. With an on-resistance of only 5 Ω maximum at 4.5 V supply and sub-nanosecond propagation delay, it provides near-transparent signal switching with minimal degradation. The wide 1.65 V to 5.5 V supply range supports mixed-voltage designs, and the I/O pins are 5.5 V tolerant, enabling level translation between different voltage domains. The ultra-small MicroPak-6 package (1.45 x 1.0 mm) occupies minimal board space, making it ideal for portable devices and high-density PCBs. The 1 µA maximum supply current ensures negligible power consumption in always-on signal path applications.

The NC7SB3257P6X uses a CMOS transmission gate architecture for signal switching. Each switch path consists of a parallel NMOS and PMOS transistor pair (transmission gate) that can pass signals from 0 V to VCC with low and relatively flat on-resistance. The select (S) pin controls which of the two input paths (A or B) is connected to the common output (COM). When S is low, the A-to-COM path is enabled and B-to-COM is high-impedance. When S is high, the B-to-COM path is enabled and A-to-COM is high-impedance. The transmission gate structure ensures that the on-resistance remains approximately constant across the full signal voltage range, unlike a single NMOS or PMOS switch whose resistance varies with signal level. The ultra-fast 0.25 ns propagation delay is achieved by minimizing parasitic capacitance and resistance in the signal path. When disabled, the switch presents a high-impedance state, effectively isolating the signal paths.
