It features 256KB Flash, 16KB SRAM, and a 25MHz CPU. Four USCI modules provide up to 8 independent communication interfaces (4 UART/IrDA/SPI + 4 I2C/SPI). The 12-bit SAR ADC with 14 external channels and internal reference handles precision measurement. A hardware multiplier supports 32-bit operations, and 3-channel DMA reduces CPU overhead. Active mode draws 230uA/MHz at 3.0V, while standby with RTC is only 2.1uA.

The MSP430F5438AIPZR is based on a 16-bit RISC CPU with 27 core instructions and 7 addressing modes for efficient code density. The unified clock system (UCS) uses an FLL to multiply a 32kHz crystal up to 25MHz, with VLO and REFO as internal clock sources. The DCO enables 3.5us wakeup from standby. Each USCI module has independent baud-rate generators and supports simultaneous UART/SPI or I2C/SPI operation. The ADC12 uses a sample-and-hold with programmable timing, and autoscan sequences multiple channels without CPU intervention. The DMA controller handles memory-to-memory and peripheral-to-memory transfers autonomously.
