The ME3116AM6G from MICRONE is a 40V input, 1A output asynchronous step-down DC-DC converter with automatic PWM/PFM mode switching, 0.9 Ohm integrated MOSFET, and 550kHz switching in a SOT-23-6 package.

The ME3116 uses a fixed-frequency PWM control loop for heavy loads, where the error amplifier compares the FB pin voltage with the 0.8V reference and adjusts the duty cycle of the integrated power MOSFET. Under light-load conditions, the controller automatically switches to PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) mode, skipping pulses to reduce switching losses and maintain high efficiency. The BS (boost) pin uses an external bootstrap capacitor to drive the high-side MOSFET gate above VIN. During output short circuit, the switching frequency folds back from 550kHz to 140kHz to reduce power dissipation.
