It asserts an active-low RESET output whenever VCC declines below a preset threshold, maintaining the reset for at least 140ms after VCC rises above the threshold. The S suffix indicates a 4.63V threshold suitable for 5V systems. With supply current as low as 0.5 µA and no external components required, this device is ideal for battery-powered and space-constrained applications.

The MAX809STRG uses an internal voltage reference and comparator to continuously monitor the VCC supply. When VCC falls below the reset threshold (4.63V for the S version), the RESET output is driven low. After VCC rises above the threshold, an internal timeout counter keeps RESET low for a minimum of 140ms to ensure the microprocessor has stabilized before beginning execution. The push-pull output stage provides active drive in both directions, eliminating the need for an external pullup resistor. The device is designed to ignore fast transients on VCC, preventing false reset triggering.
