The LTC6101HVBHS5 uses a current-feedback architecture where the internal amplifier forces a current through the external gain-setting resistor that is proportional to the shunt voltage. The shunt voltage (VSHUNT = ILOAD x RSHUNT) appears across the IN+ and IN- pins. The internal amplifier drives an output transistor to source current through the external output resistor (ROUT), producing an output voltage VOUT = IOUT x ROUT. The output current is precisely proportional to the shunt voltage: IOUT = VSHUNT / RIN, where RIN is the external input resistor. The overall voltage gain is VOUT/VSHUNT = ROUT/RIN. The high-voltage capability comes from using high-voltage transistors in the input stage that can withstand up to 105V common-mode. The amplifier does not require a low-voltage supply; it can be powered from the same high-voltage bus through an internal shunt regulator that generates the internal 2.7V supply from the V+ pin. The current-output architecture provides inherent noise filtering and allows the output voltage to be referenced to any voltage within the output compliance range.
