The LT8620EMSE#TRPBF is a 65 V, 2 A synchronous monolithic step-down switching regulator from Analog Devices with an adjustable output voltage from 0.97 V to 64.75 V. Accepting input voltages up to 65 V, it targets automotive, industrial, and telecom power applications. The integrated top and bottom power switches provide synchronous rectification, achieving up to 94% efficiency at 1 A from 12 V input. The ultralow 2.5 µA quiescent current in Burst Mode preserves battery life in always-on systems. The switching frequency is adjustable from 200 kHz to 2.2 MHz via an external resistor and can be synchronized to an external clock. Internal compensation with peak current mode control ensures stable operation with small inductors. The 30 ns minimum switch-on time enables high step-down ratios even at high frequencies. An accurate 1 V EN/UV threshold supports programmable undervoltage lockout, and the PG flag signals when the output is within +/-9% of the target. The E-grade device is rated for -40°C to +125°C.

The LT8620 operates as a constant-frequency, peak current mode synchronous buck converter. At each clock cycle, the top NMOS power switch turns on and inductor current ramps up until the peak current comparator trips, at which point the top switch turns off and the synchronous bottom NMOS switch turns on to allow inductor current to freewheel. The error amplifier compares the VFB pin voltage against a 0.97 V internal reference and adjusts the VC node to control the peak inductor current threshold. At light loads with SYNC low, Burst Mode operation delivers switching pulses in short bursts separated by sleep periods where all switching circuitry is shut down, reducing IQ to 2.5 µA. The BIAS pin can be connected to VOUT (3.3 V or above) to improve efficiency by powering internal circuitry from the output. Frequency foldback reduces the switching frequency during overload and startup to protect the inductor. The EN/UV pin with its precise 1 V threshold enables programmable input UVLO while reducing input current to 1 µA when disabled.
