The LT1763 operates as a series-pass linear regulator with three key subsystems. (1) The bandgap reference generates a precision 1.22V reference voltage that is compared against a divided-down version of the output voltage by the error amplifier. The feedback network (external resistors) sets the desired output voltage between 1.22V and 20V. (2) The series-pass PNP transistor regulates current flow from IN to OUT, controlled by the error amplifier to maintain the output at the set voltage. The PNP architecture enables low dropout voltage of 300mV at full 500mA load. (3) The noise reduction subsystem includes an internal noise filtering network and a reference bypass pin (BYP) that allows an external capacitor to further reduce reference noise, achieving the ultra-low 20μVRMS output noise specification.
