The LM386N-4/NOPB is a low voltage audio power amplifier produced by Texas Instruments. It is optimized for battery-powered consumer audio applications requiring 1W output power. Operating from a single 5V to 18V supply, the device features adjustable voltage gain from 20 to 200 using external resistors and a capacitor. The very low quiescent current of 4mA and minimal external component count make it a popular choice for portable audio amplification in consumer electronics.

The LM386 operates as a class AB audio amplifier with an internally set gain of 20 (26dB). The gain can be increased to 200 (46dB) by connecting a capacitor between pins 1 and 8. The internal circuitry consists of a differential input pair, gain-setting network, and a push-pull output stage. The output is self-centering at half the supply voltage, eliminating the need for output coupling capacitors in many applications. The ground-referenced input allows direct coupling from signal sources.
