The LM358DG consists of two independent high-gain internally-compensated operational amplifiers. Each amplifier uses a PNP differential input stage with a Darlington-connected active load, providing an input common-mode range that extends to ground. The gain stage provides the open-loop voltage gain (typically 100dB), and the output stage is a Class AB push-pull capable of sinking 30mA. Internal compensation (a dominant pole at approximately 10Hz) ensures stability in unity-gain configurations without external components. The output can swing to within 1.5V of the positive rail and down to ground (when sinking current), making it suitable for single-supply operation.
