The LM358BAIDR is a Texas Instruments next-generation industry-standard dual operational amplifier in an 8-pin SOIC package. The BA grade provides 2mV maximum input offset voltage at 25C, a significant improvement over the original LM358 (7mV), while maintaining full pin and function compatibility. The 3V to 36V supply range supports operation from single-cell Li-Ion to 24V industrial rails. The input common-mode voltage range includes ground, enabling direct sensing of near-ground signals without biasing – a critical feature for current-sense and low-side measurement applications. The 1.2MHz GBW and 0.5V/us slew rate provide adequate bandwidth for general-purpose signal conditioning. The integrated EMI and RF rejection filter reduces the susceptibility to electromagnetic interference in noisy industrial environments, a feature absent in the original LM358. The 300uA per-channel quiescent current is lower than the original (350uA), reducing power consumption in battery-powered and always-on circuits. The 2kV HBM ESD rating improves robustness over the original 500V. The bipolar input architecture provides low 1/f noise for DC and low-frequency applications. Packaged in SOIC-8 rated for -40C to +85C.

The LM358BA uses a classical bipolar input stage with PNP differential pair. The PNP input transistors allow the input common-mode range to extend to ground (V-), since the input bias current flows out of the input pins through external resistors to ground. The input stage drives a gain stage with 1.2MHz dominant-pole compensation. The class-AB output stage can source 40mA and sink 60mA, with current limiting for fault protection. The integrated EMI filter consists of an RC low-pass network at the input stage that attenuates high-frequency RF signals before they can rectify and create DC offset errors. The 300uA per-channel bias current is set by an internal current reference. The BA grade achieves the 2mV offset specification through laser trimming or improved wafer process control compared to the standard grade (3mV for B-grade, 7mV for original). The 94dB typical CMRR provides good common-mode rejection for single-supply applications with varying ground reference.
