The LM324AN is TI industry-standard quad general-purpose operational amplifier in PDIP-14 package. The A-version offers improved 3mV max input offset voltage (vs 7mV for LM324N). It operates from single 3V-32V or dual +/-1.5V to +/-16V supplies with only 700uA quiescent current. Input common-mode range includes ground, and output swings to ground without pull-down resistors. 1.2MHz GBW and unity-gain stability make it versatile for DC gain, active filters, and signal conditioning.

The LM324A uses bipolar technology with a PNP differential input pair. Input bias current flows out of the IC (~45nA typ), allowing common-mode range to extend 0.3V below ground. The output stage is push-pull but has asymmetric drive: 40mA source vs 20mA sink. Internal frequency compensation ensures unity-gain stability without external components. Quiescent current is nearly independent of supply voltage, ideal for battery operation. Differential input voltage withstands up to supply rails without clamping diodes.
