The LM324ADR from Texas Instruments is a quad 30-V 1.2-MHz operational amplifier in a 14-pin SOIC package with tape-and-reel packaging. It contains four independent high-gain internally compensated op-amps designed for single-supply operation from 3 V to 30 V. Key specs include 1.2-MHz gain bandwidth product, 0.5-V/µs slew rate, 3-mV max input offset voltage (A-grade), 0.175-mA per-channel quiescent current, and 100-dB voltage gain. The input common-mode range includes ground and the output swings from near 0 V to VCC-1.5 V. Operating temperature range is 0°C to +70°C. The ‘A’ suffix denotes improved offset specification; ‘DR’ denotes SOIC-14 tape-and-reel.

The LM324ADR from TI is the A-grade, SOIC-14 tape-and-reel version of the industry-standard LM324 quad operational amplifier. The A-grade improves the maximum input offset voltage from 7 mV (standard LM324) to 3 mV, providing better DC precision for measurement and control applications. The device is pin-compatible with all LM324 variants across manufacturers.

The LM324 family is one of the most produced op-amp ICs in history, used in virtually every category of electronics. The four amplifiers share common VCC and GND, with each having independent inputs and outputs. The input common-mode voltage range includes ground, enabling direct single-supply sensing of signals near the negative rail without level shifting.

Note that TI has discontinued the LM324AD (tube package) but continues to offer the LM324ADR (tape-and-reel). TI recommends the LM324B as the next-generation replacement, offering 3-36 V supply range, 3-mV max Vos, integrated EMI filtering, 2-kV HBM ESD protection, and -40°C to +125°C temperature range.

The LM324ADR is electrically identical to the LM324ADT from ST and the LM324ADR2G from onsemi. All three are pin-compatible and interchangeable in most applications. The TI version offers 1.2-MHz GBW vs the ST version’s 1.3-MHz GBW — a negligible difference in practice.

**Bipolar Input Stage:** Each amplifier uses a PNP differential input pair with a current-mirror active load. The PNP inputs enable the common-mode range to include ground and extend -0.3 V below it. Input bias current (45 nA typical) flows out of the input pins.

**Internal Compensation:** Dominant-pole compensation sets unity-gain bandwidth to 1.2 MHz and slew rate to 0.5 V/µs, ensuring stability in voltage-follower configurations without external capacitors.

**Class-AB Output:** The output can source 40 mA (Darlington pull-up) and sink approximately 20 mA at VCC = 15 V. The output cannot swing fully to ground under load due to the asymmetric drive — a pull-down resistor helps reach near-zero volts.

**Single-Supply Architecture:** Internal bias network operates from a single positive supply with no negative supply required, reducing system complexity.
