The LM258DGKR from Texas Instruments is a dual general-purpose operational amplifier in a VSSOP-8 package, providing the industry-standard LM358 functionality in a smaller footprint. Operating from 3V to 32V single supply or +/-1.5V to +/-16V dual supply, it features input common-mode range that includes ground, making it ideal for single-supply applications. The device provides 1.1MHz gain-bandwidth product, 0.6V/us slew rate, and low 0.7mA per-amplifier supply current. Maximum input offset voltage is 7mV. Operating temperature range is -40C to +125C.

The LM258DGKR uses a bipolar input stage optimized for single-supply operation. (1) Input Stage: A PNP differential input pair provides the input common-mode range down to ground (0V), essential for single-supply operation where the signal is ground-referenced. (2) Gain Stage: A common-emitter gain stage provides approximately 100dB open-loop gain. Internal compensation ensures stability at unity gain with capacitive loads up to approximately 100pF. (3) Output Stage: A class-AB output stage swings to within approximately 20mV of ground at light loads and to within 1.5V of VCC. The output can source approximately 20mA and sink approximately 40mA. (4) Bias: An internal current mirror provides stable bias over the wide supply range.
