The ISO7720DR is a dual-channel reinforced digital isolator from Texas Instruments using silicon dioxide (SiO2) insulation to provide 5000VRMS galvanic isolation. It supports data rates up to 100Mbps with only 10.5ns typical propagation delay and >100kV/µs common-mode transient immunity. The device operates with independent 2.25V to 5.5V supplies on each side, enabling voltage level translation across the isolation barrier. The ISO7720 variant has both channels in the same direction. The device meets UL 1577, IEC 60747-17, and VDE safety standards for reinforced isolation, making it suitable for industrial and medical applications.

The ISO7720DR uses TI’s silicon dioxide (SiO2) isolation technology with on-chip capacitive coupling. Each channel consists of a transmitter on one side of the isolation barrier and a receiver on the other side. The transmitter encodes the input logic state into high-frequency RF pulses (several GHz carrier) that are capacitively coupled across the thin SiO2 dielectric to the receiver. The receiver decodes the RF signal and reproduces the original logic state. The SiO2 dielectric provides both electrical isolation (5000VRMS breakdown) and a low-loss coupling path for the RF signal. The high CMTI (>100kV/µs) results from the differential coupling architecture that rejects common-mode transients. When the input side loses power, the receiver output assumes a defined default state (low) to prevent undefined operation. The 10.5ns propagation delay is achieved by the high-speed RF modulation and demodulation, supporting 100Mbps NRZ data. The independent supply domains on each side allow voltage level translation, for example converting 3.3V logic on one side to 5V logic on the other.
