The INA219AIDCNR from Texas Instruments is a zero-drift bidirectional current/power monitor with I2C interface in SOT-23-8. It measures both shunt voltage drop and bus supply voltage (0-26V), with a 12-bit ADC and programmable PGA providing +/-320mV full-scale shunt range. The calibration register combined with an internal multiplier enables direct readout of current in amperes, and a power register provides wattage. The A grade offers 1% accuracy over temperature. 16 programmable I2C addresses allow multiple devices on the same bus.

The INA219AIDCNR operates as a digital current and power monitor. (1) The differential input measures the voltage across an external shunt resistor with 12-bit resolution (10uV LSB). The programmable PGA provides /1, /2, /4, /8 gain settings, enabling shunt ranges from +/-40mV to +/-320mV. The bus voltage input measures the common-mode voltage (0-26V) with 4mV LSB. (2) The calibration register sets the current LSB based on the shunt resistance and desired measurement range. The internal multiplier computes current = shunt_voltage x calibration_value, and power = current x bus_voltage. This eliminates the need for the host MCU to perform floating-point calculations. (3) The I2C/SMBus interface provides access to six registers: Configuration, Shunt Voltage, Bus Voltage, Power, Current, and Calibration. Programmable conversion times (84us to 586us) and averaging (1 to 128 samples) allow trading speed for noise reduction. The 16 address options are set by A0 and A1 pins tied to GND, VS, SDA, or SCL.
