The TPS73001DBVR from Texas Instruments is a 200mA low-noise, high-PSRR adjustable LDO regulator in a 6-pin SOT-23 package. The 01 suffix indicates the adjustable output version (1.22V to 5.5V set by external resistor divider), DBV denotes the SOT-23 package, and R indicates tape and reel. The TPS730 family uses a proprietary BiCMOS process to achieve 120mV typical dropout at 200mA, 68dB PSRR at 100Hz, and only 69uVRMS output noise. The 6-pin SOT-23 package includes a feedback (FB) pin for output voltage adjustment and an enable (EN) pin for power sequencing. The device is stable with a small 2.2uF ceramic output capacitor, making it ideal for space-constrained portable applications.

The TPS73001 operates through four subsystems: (1) Bandgap Reference: A precision bandgap voltage reference provides 1.22V (Vref) with low noise and low temperature drift. The FB pin compares the divided output voltage against Vref to regulate the output. (2) Error Amplifier: A high-gain error amplifier compares the FB pin voltage with Vref and drives the pass transistor to maintain the output voltage. The amplifier bandwidth and compensation set the PSRR and transient response characteristics. The 68dB PSRR at 100Hz attenuates input ripple by a factor of 2500x. (3) Pass Transistor: A PMOS pass transistor provides the low 120mV dropout voltage at 200mA. The PMOS topology allows the output to be very close to the input voltage, unlike NPN LDO regulators. The 170uA quiescent current flows through the pass transistor bias circuit. (4) Protection: Overcurrent protection limits the output current to approximately 400mA. Thermal shutdown disables the output above 160C junction temperature. The EN pin allows the device to be shut down, reducing quiescent current to less than 1uA.
