The TL082CDT from STMicroelectronics is a dual JFET-input general-purpose operational amplifier in an SOIC-8 surface-mount package. The device incorporates well-matched high-voltage JFET and bipolar transistors in a monolithic integrated circuit, combining the ultra-low input bias current of JFET technology (20pA typical) with the output drive capability of bipolar circuitry. The 4MHz gain bandwidth product and 16V/us slew rate support a wide range of analog signal processing applications from DC to moderate frequencies. The 10^12 Ohm input impedance and 20pA input bias current make the TL082 ideal for high-impedance sensor interfaces where input loading must be minimized. The wide supply voltage range of 6V to 36V (single or dual supply) provides flexibility for various power supply configurations. The internal frequency compensation eliminates the need for external compensation components. The output short-circuit protection and latch-up free operation ensure robustness in fault conditions. The C suffix indicates the commercial temperature range (0C to 70C), D denotes SOIC-8 package, and T indicates tape and reel packaging.

The TL082CDT uses a JFET-input differential pair followed by a bipolar gain stage and output stage. The input stage consists of two matched P-channel JFETs that provide the extremely low input bias current (20pA typical) because the gate junction is reverse-biased, drawing only leakage current. The JFET differential pair converts the differential input voltage into a differential current that drives the bipolar second stage. The bipolar gain stage provides the voltage gain (typically 100dB open-loop) through an active load configuration. The output stage is a Class AB push-pull bipolar emitter follower with short-circuit current limiting, capable of sourcing and sinking approximately 20mA into a load. The internal 30pF compensation capacitor rolls off the open-loop gain at -20dB/decade starting at approximately 10Hz, crossing unity gain at 4MHz (the gain bandwidth product). The 16V/us slew rate is determined by the maximum current available to charge the compensation capacitor (SR = I/Ccomp). The JFET input structure provides the wide common-mode voltage range up to the positive supply rail, since the JFETs can withstand the full supply voltage on their gates.
