The TK6A80E.S4X from Toko Semiconductor is an N-channel enhancement-mode power MOSFET designed for high-voltage switching applications. With an 800V drain-source breakdown voltage, it is suitable for offline power supply primary-side switching, including flyback converters, forward converters, and power factor correction circuits. The 6A continuous drain current rating and 1.2Ohm typical on-resistance provide a balance of current handling and conduction loss for moderate-power applications up to approximately 50W. The SOP-8 surface-mount package enables automated PCB assembly and provides adequate thermal performance when mounted on a copper pad area.

The TK6A80E operates as a voltage-controlled switch in power converter circuits. When a gate-source voltage above the threshold (3-5V) is applied, an inversion layer forms in the P-body region under the gate oxide, creating an N-type channel that allows current to flow from drain to source. The 800V breakdown voltage is achieved through a vertically diffused structure with a lightly-doped N-drift region that absorbs the high electric field when the device is in the off state. The RDS(ON) of 1.2Ohm represents the sum of channel resistance, drift region resistance, and substrate resistance. The internal body diode provides a path for inductive freewheeling current.
