The TJA1042T from Nexperia is a high-speed CAN FD transceiver in an SOIC-8 package, tube-packed version (TJA1042T,118 is the tape-and-reel version). The device supports CAN FD data rates up to 5Mbps and provides Normal, Silent (listen-only), and Standby (15uA) operating modes. Bus pins are protected against +/-8kV ESD and short-circuit voltages from -27V to +40V. Pin-compatible with TJA1040 and TJA1050 for easy upgrade to CAN FD. Optimized for 12V automotive battery systems with automatic thermal shutdown protection.

The TJA1042T operates as a CAN FD physical layer transceiver converting TXD logic to differential CANH/CANL bus signals. In Normal mode, both driver and receiver are active. In Silent mode, only the receiver is active (listen-only, no bus loading). In Standby mode (STB low), the device draws only 15uA while the receiver monitors for bus wake-up patterns. The driver outputs dominant/recessive states with controlled edge rates for CAN FD signal integrity at up to 5Mbps. Internal ESD clamps and thermal shutdown protect the bus pins.
