The PIC16F1507-I/SS is an 8-bit microcontroller from Microchip’s enhanced mid-range PIC16F150X family that introduces several innovative peripherals to the low-cost MCU segment. Four Configurable Logic Cells (CLC) allow designers to implement combinational and sequential logic functions in hardware without CPU intervention, reducing interrupt latency and firmware complexity. The Numerically Controlled Oscillator (NCO) provides precision frequency generation with 16-bit or 20-bit resolution, useful for tone generation, stepper motor microstepping, and lighting control. With 14KB of flash and 512 bytes of SRAM, the device offers ample resources for embedded control applications while maintaining the low pin count and small footprint of the 20-pin SSOP package.

The PIC16F1507-I/SS operates on the enhanced mid-range PIC core with 49 instructions and 16-bit instruction words. The CLC modules are configurable logic blocks that can be set up as AND, OR, XOR, D-type flip-flop, or JK flip-flop elements. Each CLC takes up to 4 inputs from I/O pins, peripherals, or other CLCs and produces a logic output that can drive I/O pins or feed into other peripherals, all without CPU involvement. The NCO generates a precision frequency output by accumulating a programmable increment value at the system clock rate; when the accumulator overflows, the output toggles, producing a frequency that is a fraction of the system clock with fine resolution. The 10-bit ADC performs successive approximation conversion on any of 12 analog input channels, with auto-acquisition timing.
