The P6KE18CA is a 600 W peak pulse power bidirectional Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode in a DO-15 axial leaded package. It provides overvoltage protection for sensitive electronics by clamping transient voltages at 25.2 V with a standoff voltage of 15.3 V. The bidirectional configuration protects against both positive and negative transients, making it suitable for AC line protection and reversible polarity environments. The glass-passivated junction ensures reliable avalanche characteristics and low leakage current of 1 uA at the standoff voltage.

The P6KE18CA operates in the avalanche breakdown mode. Under normal operating conditions (voltage below 15.3 V standoff), the device presents a high impedance with only microamp-level leakage current. When a transient voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage (17.1-18.9 V), the junction enters avalanche breakdown, rapidly diverting surge current away from the protected circuit. The low dynamic impedance during avalanche clamps the voltage to a maximum of 25.2 V at the rated peak pulse current of 24.2 A. After the transient subsides, the device automatically resets to its high-impedance state. The bidirectional structure consists of two opposing Zener junctions, providing symmetrical clamping for both polarity surges. The 600 W rating is based on a 10/1000 us pulse waveform per IEC 61000-4-5.
