The NE5532P from Texas Instruments is the industry-standard dual low-noise operational amplifier for audio applications. With input noise voltage density of only 5nV/sqrt(Hz) at 1kHz, 10MHz gain-bandwidth product, and 9V/us slew rate, it provides the performance needed for professional audio signal paths. The 100dB CMRR ensures excellent rejection of power supply noise and common-mode interference. Internal compensation provides unity-gain stability without external components. The NE5532 has been the go-to op-amp for audio design for decades, found in mixing consoles, preamplifiers, equalizers, and active crossover networks worldwide. The 8-PDIP package follows the industry-standard dual op-amp pinout.

The NE5532 uses a bipolar input stage optimized for low noise. The differential input pair uses large-geometry transistors with high collector current to minimize base resistance noise, which dominates at low frequencies. The input stage feeds a folded-cascode voltage gain stage with active load, followed by a class AB output stage. Internal compensation provides a dominant pole at approximately 10Hz in unity-gain configuration, giving a 10MHz gain-bandwidth product with 60-degree phase margin. The class AB output stage can drive 600 Ohm loads to +/-10V into 600 Ohm, making it suitable for driving long cable runs. The 9V/us slew rate is set by the input stage tail current and compensation capacitor value.
