The E denotes the 32Mbit density in the MX25L series, M2 denotes the SOP-8 209mil package, I denotes industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C), and 12G denotes the speed grade (86MHz). The device supports standard SPI (Mode 0 and Mode 3) with single data rate and dual-output read mode where SI and SO pins both output data for 2x throughput at 80MHz. Memory organization includes 1024 uniform 4KB sectors and 64 uniform 64KB blocks for flexible erase operations. Page programming handles 256 bytes in 0.6ms typical, while byte programming takes 9us typical. Sector erase completes in 40ms typical and block erase in 0.4s typical. The device features hardware write protect (WP pin for bottom/top sectors), software write protect, write enable latch, and power-on reset. Deep power-down mode reduces current to 2uA typical for battery-powered applications.

The MX25L3206EM2I-12G operates through four subsystems: (1) SPI Interface: Commands, addresses, and data are transferred serially via CS# (chip select), SCLK (serial clock), SI (serial input), and SO (serial output). In dual-output read mode, both SI and SO become data outputs (SIO0 and SIO1) for 2-bit per clock data transfer, doubling read throughput. SPI Mode 0 (CPOL=0, CPHA=0) and Mode 3 (CPOL=1, CPHA=1) are supported. (2) Read Operation: After CS# goes low, a read command (03h for standard, 3Bh for dual-output) is clocked in, followed by 24-bit address. Data is then clocked out on SO (or SIO0/SIO1 in dual mode) at up to 86MHz (80MHz dual). Sequential read across sector boundaries is supported. (3) Program Operation: A write enable (06h) command must precede any program or erase operation. Page program (02h) loads up to 256 bytes into the page buffer and then programs the flash array in 0.6ms typical. The auto-program algorithm handles internal programming and verification. Sector erase (20h) clears a 4KB sector in 40ms, and block erase (D8h) clears a 64KB block in 0.4s. (4) Protection: Hardware write protect via the WP# pin protects the status register. Software write protection via status register bits protects individual sectors or blocks. Deep power-down (B9h) reduces current to 2uA for battery conservation.
