The LM741CN is the general-purpose operational amplifier from Texas Instruments that has defined the standard for analog IC design since the 1960s. Operating from +/-10V to +/-22V supplies, it provides a gain-bandwidth product of 1.5MHz and slew rate of 0.5V/us. Internal frequency compensation ensures stability without external capacitors in most configurations. The offset null pins allow external adjustment of input offset voltage. While modern op-amps surpass the 741 in virtually every parameter, it remains widely used in education and basic applications where its limitations are well understood and adequate performance is sufficient.

The LM741 uses a bipolar input stage with a differential pair that converts the differential input voltage to a differential current. This current is mirrored and fed to a high-gain intermediate stage with a dominant pole compensation capacitor that sets the 1.5MHz gain-bandwidth product. The output stage is a class AB push-pull amplifier with current limiting for short-circuit protection. The input bias current (80nA typical) is the base current of the input differential pair transistors. The offset null pins connect to the emitter circuit of the input pair, allowing external trimming to reduce the input offset voltage to zero.
